Smedley D. Butler Marines

Autograph card signed “S. D. Butler,” measuring 2.25" x 4". A bold signature of Major General Smedley Darlington Butler (1881–1940), one of the most decorated Marines in U.S. history and a two-time recipient of the Medal of Honor. At top, Butler has added in his hand “Autograph only,” with his strong, emphatic signature below. A scarce and desirable example from the legendary Marine Corps officer, later author of the classic 1935 antiwar work War Is a Racket. Butler is also remembered for his dramatic 1934 testimony before Congress exposing the so-called “Business Plot,” an alleged conspiracy by wealthy industrialists to overthrow President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Light handling, overall well preserved.
