We have defeated the Enemy completely...Writes Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry, Noting William Henry Harrison's Final War of 1812 Triumph Over the British on Oct, 5th 1813 In Words Reminiscent Of Those He Used In Reporting His Own Victory At Lake Erie Less Than A Month Before. Oliver Hazard Perry (1785-1819). American naval hero of the War of 1812 where he defeated the British on Lake Erie. His Dispatch on the victory, we have met the enemy and they are ours" is part of the fabric o American military history. Autograph Letter Signed, 1 page 4to, H.Q. near Moravian Town, Oct. 5,1813 to Captain Elliott concerning the victory of General (Later president) William Henry Harrison over the British in the Northwest territories, using words reminiscent Of those he wrote about his famous victory at Lake Erie the previous Sept 10th. Letter reads" Dear Sir we have defeated the enemy completely Neary all the British Army on our own Lance come up with the gunboats as far as you can get and hurry on the boats along to the army to meet us yours truly 0.H. Perry, Captain Elliott. The letters ink is light in places and at somebody at some point had gone over parts of the letter with another pen to show the missing letters or words. The letter was also laminated by the previous owner for its preservation. an interesting and historic letter.
