A signed copy of the "The Jazz Singer" which would go on to become the first talking picture, Publisher: Brentano's (1925), New York. Hardcover and a first edition. 153p. Inscribed "Samson Raphaelson/ To my tenant/ Pat McGrew/ December 1926." The copy has patterned boards and green cloth, showing signs of age and tearing along edges and corners.
Samson Raphaelson (March 30, 1894 – July 16, 1983) was a leading American playwright, screenwriter and fiction writer. While working as an advertising executive in New York, he wrote a short story based on the early life of Al Jolson, called The Day of Atonement, which he then converted into a play, The Jazz Singer, with Jolson as its star.
