Spring Auction 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/26/2018
Scarce vintage 8x10 satin finish sepia tone chest-up portrait by Freulich, signed and inscribed in black fountain pen, "Success always/Bill/Hoot Gibson/34." Fine condition, with minor border flaws; a number written in another hand in the bottom border; moderate contrast to portions of the inscription and signature which are penned against the dark background. One of the most popular and prolific cowboy stars of the American screen, Hoot Gibson entered film in 1910 and appeared in well over a hundred one- and two-reelers before graduating to feature length films in the early 1920s. He would continue as a star in nearly another 100 B Westerns through 1946.
