This is a typed letter on the official letterhead of The Wright Company, dated August 29, 1910, signed by Wilbur Wright and addressed to Mr. Delancey Nicoll, a prominent New York lawyer. The letter pertains to contractual concerns regarding financial provisions for aviators’ expenses. Wilbur Wright raises the issue that the contract fails to mention an agreed-upon allocation of $1,000 per aviator for expenses, totaling $5,000 for five individuals. He suggests a supplementary contract to address this oversight.

This letter highlights Wilbur Wright’s keen attention to business details during the early days of aviation and provides a fascinating glimpse into the operational challenges faced by the Wright brothers.

In fine condition, with minor creasing along the edges. The signature of Wilbur Wright is bold and clear.

"Dear Mr. Nicoll:

I return the contract with my signature as president of the Wright Co. However, I have hesitated about signing it, because it was agreed that we were to have a thousand dollars expense money for each of the five men we furnish. As this contract makes no mention of this fact we will be compelled to furnish the men whether expense money is paid us or not. We think this matter ought to be provided for in a supplementary contract. The agreement was that we were to receive $5,000 out of the money set aside for expenses of aviators.

Yours truly,

Wilbur Wright."
