Confederate-era slave sale court order, one page, 8" x 10", Charleston District, South Carolina, March 25, 1862. Printed form completed in manuscript and signed by George Buist, Ordinary (probate judge). Issued on petition of Rhett P. Pinckney, executor of the estate of Edward Cheeseborough, the document grants authority for the public auction of three enslaved individuals: Rose, Thomas, and Dennis. It specifies that they had been inventoried, appraised “at fair market value,” and were to be sold for cash. Embossed seal of the Court of Ordinary present at lower right. Docketed on the verso in a contemporary hand: “Titles of Negro Slaves.” Light folds and expected handling, overall fine condition.
