Texas Governor Sam Houston approves payment for "protection of the frontier."

Partly-printed DS, one page, 8 x 3.25, June 15, 1860. Treasury warrant issued to Joseph D. Farrow for $83.90 for "protection of the frontier, this amount being for services as Private in Capt. Walkers Company ." Signed on the front in ink by Treasurer Cyrus Halbert Randolph and Comptroller Clement R. Johns (Johns's signature canceled), The document, measuring approximately 3.5" x 8", acknowledges a legislative act with an interest clause, bearing Houston’s bold signature. Framed together with an engraved portrait of Houston (4" x 6"), overall size 13" x 16". Houston, famed for his role in securing Texas independence and serving as its first President, was also a U.S. Senator and Governor, making his autograph highly prized among Americana collectors.
