Republic of Texas certificate of stock, $500 face value, issued under the 10% Consolidated Fund act of February 5, 1840. Printed by South & Bank Note Co., New Orleans, with decorative border, classical allegorical vignette, and official stock certificate design. Manuscript inscription names the original holder (e.g. “A. A. M. Jackson”) and is signed by Charles DeMorse (Stock Commissioner) and other period Texas Treasury officials. Interest certificates remain attached and bear cancellation markings. The certificate exhibits gentle folds, some foxing, and moderate handling toning, but remains robust and visually presentable.

This certificate represents Texas’s ambitious attempt to restructure its national debt via conversion into funded stock bearing 10% interest—an episode often overlooked yet pivotal in the Republic’s struggle for fiscal solvency. Such “consolidated fund” stocks are less commonly encountered than ordinary government bonds.

The paper is supple, printed images and lettering are crisp. Single light fold through center; minor edge frays. The signatures are intact with minimal bleed. Coupons are securely attached, though some show light cancellation.
