Lot of (2) signed items from noted clergymen. Includes a 3" x 5" blue-lined slip signed “Yours truly, E. H. Chapin, New York, Oct. 16, 1866,” with light paper clip mark, otherwise in fine condition. Also present is an autograph letter signed by John Henley, measuring 5.75" x 7.5", incomplete and undated, with expected folds and light toning consistent with age.
Edwin Hubbell Chapin (December 29, 1814 – 1880) was an American preacher and editor of the Christian Leader. He was also a poet, responsible for the poem Burial at Sea, which was the origin of a famous folk song, Bury Me Not on the Lone Prairie.
John Henley (3 August 1692 – 13 October 1756), English clergyman, commonly known as 'Orator Henley', was a preacher known for showmanship and eccentricity.
