George Gordon Byron, 6th Baron Byron (1788-1824), one of the defining voices of the Romantic movement, is represented here by a clipped signature accompanied by an impressive original red wax seal. The signature reads "Byron" in his characteristic hand. The large wax seal bears an armorial device consistent with his baronial rank.
Byron died at 36, having produced "Childe Harold's Pilgrimage," "Don Juan," and a body of verse that reshaped European literature. Anything in his hand is exceedingly rare on the market; clipped signatures with intact period wax seals are rarer still, offering both the autograph and the physical presence of his aristocratic identity in a single artifact.
Clipped signature on paper strip with attached red wax seal, pencil or faded brown ink, approximately 5.5 x 1.5 inches; mounted on card with archival clips (IMG_185.jpg). Seal intact with surface cracking consistent with age; paper toned; overall good condition. Estimate: $2,000-$3,500.
