EISENHOWER, MAMIE DOUD, First lady. Lot includes (A) ALS dated March 1, 1968 to Delores Mooney, who worked for Mrs. Eisenhower for “the darling little bouquet of violets you brought me while I was sick.” A warm letter signed “Always your friend’ and a double signature – “Mrs. Eisenhower” and “Mamie Doud Eisenhower”. (B) A handsome engraving of the White House done by the Bureau of Engraving, boldly signed “Mamie Doud Eisenhower”. (C) Her personal copy of “Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures”. This book had belonged to her younger sister “Buster Doud”, who died in the fall of 1918. On the fly leaf is Buster Doud’s name and Denver address. Below it is written “From Mother” and “Mrs. D. D. Eisenhower – U.S. Army”. This is not Mamie’s signature. It appears that after Buster died, their mother gave this book, which had belonged to Buster, to Mamie. The book shows considerable wear but is intact.
