Carnegie, Andrew – Autograph letter signed (2 pages, 7.25 x 5) on letterhead of the Royal Poinciana Hotel in Palm Beach, FL, dated July 18, 1896. Letter is addressed to Mr. Eaton (Cyrus Eaton?) and reads as follows, “I wish so much to do anything I can for Drexel – the work of my friend now gone, that I should certainly deliver the desired lecture were I north in time but one should not be until about sixth April. May be at some future time I can be of service.” Carnegie was an industrialist who led the enormous expansion of the American steel industry in the late 19th century. During the last 19 years of his life he gave away the equivalent of $78 billion today in support of philanthropic endeavors. Also includes a large engraved print of Carnegie.
