Letter reads in full: ”Only the great press and rush in the final days of preparation for our Antarctic Expedition have prevented an earlier acknowledgement of your very generous letter of co-operation of August 4th.The combs have been received and I wish to express my deep appreciation for your liberal donation and my sincere thanks to you for your personal efforts to help the Expedition towards success. Richard E. Byrd”Rear Admiral Richard E. Byrd, Jr., USN (October 25, 1888 – March 11, 1957) was an American naval officer who specialized in feats of exploration. He was a pioneering American aviator, polar explorer, and organizer of polar logistics.
