President of the U.S. A superb LS as Senate Democratic Leader to Ray Tucker on March 22, 1957. Tucker was a nationally known newspaper writer whose column had pleased LBJ. Here Johnson expresses his deep appreciation for Tucker’s judgment “that I have given the Senate Democrats balanced leadership.” Interestingly, LBJ states that “I have no intention of conducting any campaign for the presidency – now or in the future.” He describes his philosophy of problem solving. “I am a strong believer in attempting to adopt a balanced viewpoint toward problems. I learned many years ago that there are no simple answers to difficult problems, and no real answers at all unless all points of view are taken into account.” An interesting piece from an important time in Johnson’s political career.
