Interesting TLS letter, dated August 21,1933 by Charles Curtis, Vice President of the United States, under Herbert Hoover. He writes about his Indian ancestry in part “ My Folks where all part of the Kaw or Kansas Indians not the Delaware….. so as far as I know I have no first cousin who is a member of the Delaware tribe of Indians.”. Curtis was the first person with significant acknowledged Native American ancestry and the first person with significant acknowledged non-European ancestry to reach either of the two highest offices in the United States government's executive branch. Some toning and slights staining on top area, also old description attached to lower left, neither affects signature or letter
