Two items: TLS signed "Wm. H. Taft," one page, 5 x 8, personal letterhead, January 1, 1909. Letter regarding an IRS appointment. In part, "The endorsement by Mr. Schmidlapp, urging the retention of Commissioner Capers at the head of the Bureau of Internal revenue. I shall be glad to give full consideration to what you say at the proper time." In very good condition, with signature a bit light but legible and light toning from previous display. Also a vintage ink signature, as chief justice, “Wm. H. Taft, on an off-white 4.5 x 2.5 lightly-lined page. In fine condition
