Boston-born Baptist minister and academic (1808–1895) best known as the lyricist of ‘America’ (‘My Country, ’Tis of Thee’), written while he was a student at Andover Theological Seminary. Autograph lyrics, signed “S. F. Smith,” One page folio 6"x 12",mounted in larger shadow box frame. Frame Size - 27'' x 30.5'', no date. Smith pens all four stanzas of his famous hymn, “America.” In part: “My country, ’tis of thee, / Sweet land of liberty, / Of thee I sing; / Land where my fathers died, / Land of the pilgrims’ pride, / From every mountainside, / Let freedom ring.” is missing small bottom portion in the last stanza and sentence the word "Great", otherwise fine condition. A particularly nice example of the patriotic song in its entirety.
