Clay appoints Marshal of the District of Connecticut.
LS signed “H. Clay,” one page, 8 x 10, May 8, 1827. Brief letter to William Bristol, judge of the United Stated , District of Connecticut , New Haven. In part: “I have the honor to enclose you herewith a commission appointing James Mitchell, a Marshall of The United States, for the District of Connecticut, and the favor of you to deliver it over to him........"Ink and signature is in good condition, paper does have some faults with intersecting folds, scattered toning and three spotts where some kind of discoloring.
