Scarce signature and date on an off-white slip, 4-1/2 x 2-1/8. Fine condition, with a small stain at the bottom right corner tip. The pioneering African-American activist was a co-founder of the NAACP in 1909, the first black scholar to earn a doctorate from Harvard, and the author of "The Souls of Black Folk" (1903).
