"If The Boys Club do not get the $1000. I hope that when this letter gets into the dealer's hands, that his whole stock and trade will catch on fire".
Extremely rare handwritten letter from Hoover on his personal stationary, dated on Nov, 19th, 1953, in blue ink, letter is in fine condition
Hoover sends as a favor of an Ed Anthony from the Boys Club to a Mr. Belding a very rare handwritten letter. Hoover himself conjectured that the only reason for a handwritten letter is to sell it at sometime for monetary gain. this letter shows a rare glimpse of Hoovers humor. Letter reads in part... Dear Mr. Belding, Ed Anthony transmits your request for a holographic letter for your collection. I receive tens of thousands of such request, the only purpose for a letter written of former president these days of typewriters that the receive or his executors may add them for their collection. The current price for such a letter in the market is $1000 ........ Therefore, I'm assuming you will remit this amount for the boys clubs of America. As I could get that amount for them by this exercise. in any event, this act is to mark my affection for Ed and The Boys Club do not get the $1000. I hope that when this letter gets into the dealer's hands, that his whole stock and trade will catch on fire. Your Sincerely Herbert Hoover
