A handsome, large ink signature “George R.” penned by King George IV of England on an off-white document slip, measuring 9.25" × 3.75" inches. Executed with the elegant flourish characteristic of the monarch’s later-life hand. Docketed lightly in pencil “1825 / George IV” at top margin, indicating the period of his reign (1820–1830). A fine and visually striking royal autograph from the flamboyant ruler who presided over Britain’s Regency and early modern era.
George IV (1762-1830) was king of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and Hanover from January 29, 1820, until his death. He had previously served as Prince Regent when his father, George III was not fit to rule due to mental illness. The Regency, George's nine-year tenure as Prince Regent, was marked by victory in the Napoleonic Wars. George is remembered largely for his extravagant lifestyle.
