Katharine Hepburn ALS

Katharine Hepburn, ALS, dated April 22, 1981, measuring 6 x 8 inches. Written on her printed letterhead and filled with candid, characteristically sharp observations. In part, she writes: “you are sweet to send me the other two – very sharp you are – certainly no slouch – and you even read my ? about leaving the bathroom door opened – many many thanks…” The letter reads as an informal, conversational note, revealing Hepburn’s wit, directness, and unmistakable voice. Signed in full at the conclusion, “Kate Hep.” In fine condition.

Hepburn was a leading lady in Hollywood for more than 60 years. She appeared in a range of genres, from screwball comedy to literary drama, and she received four Academy Awards for Best Actress—a record for any performer. In 1999, Hepburn was named by the American Film Institute as the greatest female star of Classic Hollywood Cinema.
