Fascine - Used to Clear Woods

Fascines like this were cutting tools used in clearing brush and light growth during the Revolutionary era. They were officially issued to the troops for engineering purposes, but because of the large numbers recovered from military sites, they must have been a common camp implement. The handle is wooden, the piece shows age but is in otherwise fine condition.
