Benjamin Harrison, autograph letter signed, penned as President. A scarce telegram written entirely in Harrison’s hand in pencil, addressed to Hon. W. T. Sewell of Camden, N.J., measuring 6.5" x 8". The note, trimmed at the right edge with some text loss though the message remains legible, reads in part:

“To Hon. W. T. Sewell, Camden N.J. So far … know I can go but may not … able to leave here before 5 P.M. … have an engagement … I ask Edmunds to go along … Benj. Harrison.”

Below his bold signature, Harrison added, “Ans. to D.H.” The date “Nov. 11 / 89” is noted in another hand at the lower margin. Sewell, a Republican U.S. Senator from New Jersey, had been awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for bravery at Chancellorsville during the Civil War, further enhancing the historical associations of this piece.

Accompanied by a handsome 4.25" x 6" engraved portrait of Harrison.

Benjamin Harrison (August 20, 1833 – March 13, 1901) was the 23rd president of the United States, serving from 1889 to 1893. He was a member of the Harrison family of Virginia—a grandson of the ninth president, William Henry Harrison, and a great-grandson of Benjamin Harrison V, a Founding Father. A Union army veteran and a Republican, he defeated incumbent Grover Cleveland to win the presidency in 1888.
