Benjamin Harrison: ALS as president. This is a telegram written in pencil. The date Nov 11/89 is written in another hand. It has been trimmed at the right edge, resulting in the loss of some text, but the message is clear. The parentheses represent missing text. To Hon. W. T. Sewell, Camden, N.J. So far ( ) know I can go but may not ( ) able to leave here before 5 P.M. ( ) have an engagement ( ) I ask Edmunds to go along ( ) Benj. Harrison. Below the signature he wrote “Ans. to D.H.” Sewell was a Republican U. S. Senator from New Jersey. He was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his bravery at Chancellorsville during the Civil War. With an engraving of Harrison.
