Controversial lieutenant general (1880–1949) who was in command of the Hawaiian Department of the US Army at the time of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Removed from duty and demoted in rank, it was later thought by some historians that he may have been scapegoated by his superiors. Fountain pen signature, “Autographed by request. Walter C. Short, Major General, USA. Ret.,” on an off-white 5 x 3 card. In fine condition, with a couple of light creases and light overall toning.
