Early 1930s vintage knit athletic cardigan in orange wool with cream trim, featuring button front, two patch pockets, ribbed cuffs and waistband, and a single striped sleeve. The chest bears a large felt and chain-stitched emblem with shield motif and intertwined initials for the “Golden Cyclone” team. Manufacturer label by Lowe & Campbell Athletic Goods Co. (multi-city tag), consistent with late 1920s to mid-1930s production.

Research attributes the Golden Cyclone moniker to the Employers Casualty Company women’s AAU/industrial team of Dallas, active circa 1929–1934. This highly competitive squad gained national recognition in the early 1930s.

Significantly, the Employers Casualty “Golden Cyclones” were the team for which Babe Didrikson Zaharias famously competed during the formative years of her athletic career. While no direct provenance accompanies the present cardigan, the piece is of the precise type and period worn during Didrikson’s tenure with the team, and survives as a rare artifact from the era in which she established herself as one of the most dominant multi-sport athletes in American history. The possibility of personal association cannot be ruled out and elevates the historical interest of the garment.

A remarkable and seldom-encountered relic of early women’s competitive athletics, AAU industrial sports leagues.
