Uncommon Thomas Jefferson judicial appointment signed ''Th. Jefferson'' as President, dated 26 March 1804. Jefferson approves the appointment of John Samuel Sherburne as New Hampshire District Court Judge. The Vellum document measures approximately 15.25'' x 12.75'', Folds, light wear and creasing, signature, and parchment are in very good condition. Framed and matted with engraving.
Thomas Jefferson (April 13, 1743 – July 4, 1826) was an American statesman, diplomat, lawyer, architect, philosopher, and Founding Father who served as the third president of the United States from 1801 to 1809. Among the Committee of Five charged by the Second Continental Congress with authoring the Declaration of Independence, Jefferson was the primary author. Following the American Revolutionary War and prior to becoming president in 1801, Jefferson was the first United States secretary of state under George Washington and then the nation's second vice president under John Adams.
John Samuel Sherburne (1757 – August 2, 1830) was a United States representative from New Hampshire and a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the District of New Hampshire. Sherburne was involved in the first impeachment against a Federal Official in the March 12, 1804 case against Judge John Pickering.
