Thomas Jefferson Document Signed as President

JEFFERSON, Thomas. Document signed, dated May 2, 1801. The document measures approximately 8 by 12 inches. Framed with portrait, the entire piece measures 23 by 13 1/2 inches. Military appointment, signed by Jefferson as President and countersigned by Henry Dearborn as Acting Secretary of the Navy. Jefferson here appoints one Samuel Woodhouse a midshipman in the U.S. Navy. With a paper seal of the United States Navy Department. Jefferson's signature is bold and clear. The paper seal is completely present. Extremely good condition, matted with a portrait of Jefferson in a handsome gilt frame.

Thomas Jefferson (April 13, 1743[b] – July 4, 1826) was an American statesman, diplomat, lawyer, architect, philosopher, and Founding Father who served as the third president of the United States from 1801 to 1809.[6] He was the primary author of the Declaration of Independence. Following the American Revolutionary War and before becoming president in 1801, Jefferson was the nation's first U.S. secretary of state under George Washington and then the nation's second vice president under John Adams.
