A scarce document demonstrating the need for clothing and the unique solution among the soldiers of the Revolutionary War. The document states in part " ... pay Elijah Weeden thirteen shilling silver money for clothing for the army and charge the town Preston, December 10, 1781."
The poorly clad foot soldiers of George Washington's army became an unfortunate cliche in American History. Their supplies of clothing were so tattered that actual continental currency was used to patch holes as is illustrated in this unique piece.
