The Penny Black was the world's first adhesive postage stamp used in a public postal system. It was issued in Great Britain on 1 May 1840, for official use from 6 May of that year. This cover dated March 20,1841,a black Maltese Cross Cancel. Tunstall, whose UDC (undated circle) receiver it carries is a part of the city of Stoke-on-Trent. This Penny Black is from plate #8.
