Paul Tibbets Signed Photo

Black-and-white 8" x 10" photograph depicting the massive mushroom cloud rising above Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, moments after the detonation of the first atomic bomb used in warfare. Boldly signed in blue ink at upper right, “Paul W. Tibbets / Hiroshima / 8/6/45.” As commander and pilot of the Enola Gay, Brigadier General Paul W. Tibbets led the mission that dropped the “Little Boy” bomb on Hiroshima, marking a pivotal moment in World War II and world history. Measures 8" x 10". Paul Tibbets Jr. (23 February 1915 – 1 November 2007) was a brigadier general in the United States Air Force. He is best known as the pilot who flew the B-29 Superfortress known as the Enola Gay (named after his mother) when it dropped Little Boy, the first of two atomic bombs used in warfare, on the Japanese city of Hiroshima.
