Portion of an Autograph Letter Signed "N. Greene," 2 pages, oblong &vo, no place, noted in another hand as dated December 25, 1782. To Captain Thomas Hutchins, Continental officer who served as Geographer to the Southern army.
Evidently in reply to Hutchins' letter of 21 December, summarized in the Greene Papers, Volume XI, page 331. Hutchins had excused his not visiting because of illness and sent his compliments to Mrs. Greene. The inside address to Hutchins, complimentary close and signature are on one side; on the other is "... We shall always be happy to see you at head quarters, but an apology was unnecessary. Mrs. Greene joins me in kind compl[iments]." Some mounting residue but well suited for framing; a hand colored steel engraved portrait accompanies.
