Maurice Sendak 16" x 20" promotional poster entitled "In Celebration of Maurice Sendak," portraying various famous characters created and illustrated by Maurice Sendak. Characters from the following books are featured: "Kenny's Window" (1956); "The Sign on Rosie's Door" (1960); "The Nutshell Library" (1962), comprised of "Pierre," "Alligators All Around," "Chicken Soup with Rice," and "One Was Johnny"; "Where the Wild Things Are" (1963); "In the Night Kitchen" (1970); and "Outside Over There" (1981). Amongst others, the Poster depicts the following Characters; Wild Things, Max, Alligator, Rosie, The Baker, Mickey, and The Lion. Pen Signed by the artist as "Maurice Sendak" at the lower right. Unframed. In fine condition.

The poster was originally produced in 1990 ahead of the re-publication of Sendak's earlier books. This poster is one of the original, more scarce promotional posters from 1990. Sendak's re-publication project was delayed, and the poster image was eventually revised and printed in 2001 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the beginning of Sendak's career as a children's book artist. The 10-year delay prevented a wider distribution of the original poster from 1990.

Maurice Sendak (June 10, 1928 – May 8, 2012) was an American illustrator and writer of children's books. He became widely known for his book Where the Wild Things Are, first published in 1963. Born to Polish-Jewish parents, his childhood was affected by the death of many of his family members during the Holocaust. Sendak also wrote works such as In the Night Kitchen, Outside Over There and illustrated many works by other authors including the Little Bear books by Else Holmelund Minarik.
