This incredible newspaper is the last printed of La Gaceta de La Habana the day that Cuba got its independence from Spain and Established its first government with the help of the US with their president Estrada Palma. This represents Spain's defeat by U.S. and Cuban forces during the War of 1898 when Spain relinquished sovereignty over Cuba. Following the war, U.S. forces occupied Cuba until 1902, when the United States allowed a new Cuban government to take full control of the state's affairs.

The newspaper does have some condition issues, some separations on the middle fold which archival tape was used for reinforcement,  on the back side bottom does have some old library stamps from Habana notes and signatures related ..........to and what we believe a spurious autograph added of Estrada Palma Cubas first president. We can not find any other copy that has ever come up for sale and the copy still has a great look and is in good condition.

La Gaceta de La Habana was the newspaper of record for the Spanish colonial government in the second half of the nineteenth century in Cuba. It was the successor of Diario de La Habana, which was published until 1848, when it changed its name to La Gaceta de La Habana - Periódico Oficial del Gobierno. In turn, it was succeeded by La Gaceta Oficial de la República de Cuba in 1902.
