Blessing certificate from the Holy Father Pope Benedictus XV to Senator Philippe Casgrain & Family April 7, 1921, with affixed F. Felici Roma photograph of the seated Pontiff. Measures 5 1/2 inches x 4 inches, signed at the bottom in black ink Benedictus PP. XV with the seal of the Pontiff. The total size is 13 1/2 inches x 8 7/8 inches. Minor damage showing near the signature.
Pope Benedict XV, born Giacomo Paolo Giovanni Battista della Chiesa; 21 November 1854 – 22 January 1922), was head of the Catholic Church from 1914 until his death in January 1922. His pontificate was largely overshadowed by World War I and its political, social, and humanitarian consequences in Europe.
