Theodore Roosevelt signed documents for George H. Torney, US Army Surgeon General. 4 total documents and appointments, 2 of which appoint Torney the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Medical Corps and Deputy Surgeon General with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel (both dating to August 6, 1903). These latter documents are both signed by President Teddy Roosevelt and his secretary of war and acting secretary of war. A third document appoints Torney the rank of Captain in the Medical Section, Officer's Reserve Corps of the Army. The final document is awarded from the Medical Society of the District of Columbia. Each on vellum and measuring approx. 19.5 x 15.5in. Together with a bronze or copper medal awarded to Torney from the Oneida County War Committee in recognition of his patriotic service in the Spanish American War. 3.75in length on ribbon.
