The Birth and Acts of King Arthur of his Noble Knights of the Round Table Their Marvelous Enquests and Adventures The Achieving of the San Greal and in the End Le Morte Darthur with the Dolourous Death and Departing out of this World of them all. With an Introduction by Professor Rhys, and embellished with many Original designs by Aubrey Beardsley.
Books show signs of wear, binding cloth a bit dirty, spines darkened paper yellowed, some cover separation. 2 Volume set. Heavy gilded decorations to upper boards and spine. Beige boards. Top edges gilded, and rough cut paper. Volume 1 does have some condition issues to cover and slight chipping on some paper, volume 2 has a slight separation with cover and some scattered toning. This is a rare set of Beardsley-created drawings with a Japanese influence throughout.
The text as written by Sir Thomas Mallory and imprinted by William Caxton at Westminster the year MCCCCLXXXV and now spelled in Modern Style. With an Introduction by Professor Rhys and embellished with many original designs by Aubrey Beardsley. MDCCCXCIII.
The edition of Le Morte D'Arthur is limited to 300 Copies on Dutch Hand Made paper and 1500 ordinary copies, after printing which
the type has been distributed. Volume 1. Offset to front endpaper, Half Title, Edition Details, Frontispiece, Title, Contents, List of Illustrations, Note on Text Used by F.J.Simmons, Preface, Caxton's Preface, Caxton's Introduction. Caxton's Table or Rubrysshe of Contents- Book I- Book IX. xliij plus 455 pages text and illustrations. Volume 2 Half Title- Second Portion containing Frontispiece, Title Contents-List Of Illustrations. Offset to front and to the rear end. No Tissue guards.
