PRESIDENTIAL RELATIVES
(1) Frederick D. Grant, oldest child of U. S. Grant. ALS 8/16/1885 to Horatio King, former Postmaster General, acknowledging King’s expression of sympathy to his mother. On the verso, King has copied the letter he wrote to which Grant is responding. Pasted on the back is a clipping of a hymn written for U. S. Grant’s memorial service by Samuel F. Smith, author of “America”.
(2) Anne Neal Cleveland, mother of the president.1881 ALS to her daughter, Margaret Louise Falley Cleveland. 3 full pages of family news.
(3) Alice Roosevelt Longworth, daughter of Theodore Roosevelt and wife of Nicholas Longworth, Speaker of the House. A White House engraving signed Alice Roosevelt Longworth.
(4) Jessie Wilson, daughter of Woodrow Wilson. ALS dated November third 1914 on White House stationery to Mrs. Hulbert thanking her profusely for the gift of a beautiful table. 3pp 8vo. With the envelope.
(5) Julie Nixon Eisenhower and David Eisenhower. First Day Cover of Dwight Eisenhower stamp inscribed by Julie and signed by both.
(6) Billy Carter, Jimmy’s brother. A receipt for Dowling Bag Company signed for Carter Warehouse dated 1/10/61. Billy was a colorful character and often in the news during his brother’s presidency.
(7) Charles S. “Chuck” Robb, U.S. Senator and son-in-law of president Lyndon Johnson. A typed LS dated June 21,1978 to a supporter. A warm friendly letter with family news. He also penned a grateful note at the bottom. Also included is a “Good luck best wishes” note written on a Democratic party campaign ad.
(8) Prescott Bush, Senator from Connecticut and father of a president and grandfather of another. ALS on his Christmas card to a retiring Senate employee. “Farewell and God bless you, my faithful friend. I shall always remember you as one of the kindest most courteous men I know.”
