GEORGE W. BUSH. ALS on both sides of a 6 x 4” card headed “George Bush for President”. Undated, but the accompanying envelope bears a May 26, 1987 postmark. To Knox McConnell of Keystone, West Virginia campaigning for his father’s presidential race. “Dear Knox – Thanks for the kind letter. I thought the article by Garret Mathews was positive – not negative. There is nothing wrong with a son defending his father. The event was terrific. Dad was so pleased when I told him of your hard work. We are all grateful. Work hard. I’ll talk to you in the near future. Sincerely, George”. McConnell was a highly successful banker and a close personal friend. An unusual letter connecting two presidents in an unusual way.
