FORD, GERALD R. TLS on White House letterhead date September 11, 1974, to Lawrence Spivak of Meet the Press. “Dear Larry: Thank you for your letter. I appreciate very much your kind comments about my swearing-in remarks that ‘the country is in good hands.’ It is reassuring to me to have your prayers and best wishes. I will need your support and that of millions of other Americans to tackle the problems that face us as a Nation. You may be sure I will call on you for your help if the need ever arises. Sincerely, Jerry Ford.” With Spivak’s retained copy of his letter which he wrote on the first day of Ford’s presidency.
