GARFIELD, LUCRETIA R. First Lady. ALS 2 ½ pp 8vo on black-bordered stationery. She no longer had autograph of General Garfield to distribute but holds a few in reserve for special people, and the addressee is in that category. “Among Grandma Garfield’s papers we found a few envelopes bearing the General’s signature and one of these I now enclose to you.” She is pleased that the southern climate is proving beneficial to his mother and sister and adds this interesting observation. “The social atmosphere may not be altogether charming, but of that they fortunately do not stand in need.” A superb First Lady letter.
