1866 American Express Stock Certificate Signed by Wells and Fargo
This fine 1866 American Express stock certificate measures 11.625" x 8.25" and features the rarer blue border. It is made out to Lake Wilkins of Westport, CT, for 3 shares. The certificate is boldly signed by both founders of the company, Henry Wells and William G. Fargo, and countersigned by Treasurer Alex Holland.

The graphics are outstanding, depicting a train, roundhouse, ships, a delivery wagon, a safe, cotton and crated goods, and a guard dog labeled "Safety & Dispatch." The signatures are dark and clear, although the Wells autograph does have a slight written cancellation. Despite this, it remains an attractive stock certificate. The certificate is in good condition with minor paper loss in the top margin and a repaired 1” vertical tear in the upper edge and trimmed margin on the left side.

Also included:
An 1869 American Merchants Union Stock Certificate signed by William G. Fargo as President, E. P. Ross as Treasurer, and J. N. Knapp as Secretary. Measuring 12" x 8.5", this certificate (No. 914) was issued for 10 shares as part of a stock issue of 180,000 shares, with each share valued at $100. Both the Knapp and Fargo signatures feature cancellation holes but remain bold and legible.

Certification:
Includes a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) from One Of A Kind Collectibles.
