The painting and print depict the highest scoring Soviet and Allied Ace of WWII, Ivan Kozhedub encountering and eventually downing a Me 262 jet north of Frankfurt, Germany on 19 February 1945. Ivan N. Kozhedub was the highest scoring Soviet and Allied Ace of WWII with 62 victories and 520 combat missions. He was awarded the Hero of the Soviet Union medal three times.
