James Garfield ALS (4.75 x 7.5") and Campaign broadside (11.5" x 18"). The ALS is dated July 20th, 1880 and signed "J. Garfield." The broadside announces a "Pole Raising and Meeting" rally in support of Garfield & Arthur to be held in Centreville, Buckingham TP on September 30, 1880. The broadside has large block style letters and a woodcut eagle at the center. Printed by Paschall Brothers, Steam-Power Job Printers, Doylestown, Pennsylvania. Suitable for display. Framed together to an overall size of 26" x 25". In fine condition.
James Garfield (November 19, 1831 – September 19, 1881) was the 20th president of the United States, serving from March 1881 until his assassination in September 1881. A lawyer and Civil War general, Garfield served nine terms in the United States House of Representatives and is the only sitting member of the House to be elected president. Vice President Chester Arthur succeeded Garfield, becoming the 21st President of the United States.
