31st President of the United States (1874–1964). First edition signed “Herbert Hoover” in pencil on the front free endpaper, one volume, The Memoirs of Herbert Hoover: The Cabinet and the Presidency, 1920 to 1933 (New York: Macmillan, 1952). The signature is bold and fully legible across the upper portion of the page. Book in Very Good condition in its original green and cream dust jacket, jacket design by Riki Levinsom, priced at $5.00 on the front flap. Some wear and small losses to jacket extremities; binding tight and square; interior clean.

This volume covers the most consequential decade of Hoover’s public life: his tenure as Secretary of Commerce under Harding and Coolidge, where he transformed a backwater department into one of the most dynamic agencies in government, and his single term as President (1929–1933), which was overtaken by the Great Depression. Written in retirement with characteristic directness and intelligence, the Memoirs remain an essential primary source for the Hoover years. Signed copies in original jacket are consistently sought by presidential collectors.
