Grover Cleveland signed a partial presidential appointment document dated March 30, 1894. Partially printed document, bearing signature, “Grover Cleveland.” Countersigned by Attorney General Richard Olney, with the original red Department of Justice seal affixed at left.
The surviving portion retains the formal closing language, including “Given under my hand, at the City of Washington, the 30th day of March… one thousand eight hundred and ninety-four… and of the Independence of the United States… the 119th,” followed by “By the President: Grover Cleveland.” In fine condition.
Grover Cleveland (March 18, 1837 – June 24, 1908) was an American lawyer and politician who served as the 22nd and 24th president of the United States from 1885 to 1889 and from 1893 to 1897. He won the popular vote for three presidential elections—in 1884, 1888, and 1892—and was one of two Democrats (followed by Woodrow Wilson in 1912) to be elected president during the era of Republican presidential domination dating from 1861 to 1933.
