Important Italian composer (1792-1868) who became one of the seminal figures in the history of opera with such repertoire staples as The Barber of Seville and William Tell. Scarce bank check, 9.75 x 3.75, filled out in another hand and signed by Gioachino Rossini, payable to the Rothschild Brothers for 3400 livres, June 18, 1861. matted and framed with a portrait to an overall size of Frame: 20-1/2in tall x 17in wide.
Gioachino Rossini (29 February 1792 – 13 November 1868) was an Italian composer who gained fame for his 39 operas, although he also wrote many songs, some chamber music and piano pieces, and some sacred music. He set new standards for both comic and serious opera before retiring from large-scale composition while still in his thirties, at the height of his popularity.
