Partly-printed portion of a three-language ship’s paper, measuring 9.5" x 12.75", dated March 9, 1795, and issued at the Port of Savannah. Signed "Go: Washington" as President and countersigned by Edmund Randolph as Secretary of State and John Habersham as Collector of the Customs. Printed in French, English, and Dutch, the passport describes its cargo (tobacco, rice, and shingles), granting safe passage through foreign ports for a voyage to the West Indies.

The document retains the original paper seal at lower left and is framed with an engraved portrait of Washington to an overall size of 17" x 28". Fold lines are visible, with some toning and foxing consistent with age. Washington’s signature remains strong and well-defined. During this period, American ships were increasingly vulnerable to seizure by foreign powers amid tensions between England and France. Documents like this were issued to confirm U.S. neutrality and ensure safer passage in contested waters.

George Washington (February 22, 1732 – December 14, 1799) was a Founding Father and the first president of the United States, serving from 1789 to 1797. As commander of the Continental Army, Washington led Patriot forces to victory in the American Revolutionary War against the British Empire. He is commonly known as the Father of His Country for his role in bringing about American independence.
