A rare printed presentation copy of Haig’s famed “Backs to the Wall” order of April 11, 1918—signed by Haig and inscribed to Percy Chubb in recognition of his wartime support. Though widely circulated in facsimile during the Spring Offensive, signed printed versions in this formal style are notably elusive.

Together with an autograph letter signed (“D. Haig”), H.Q. 1st Army Corps, 2 December 1914, to Chubb, commenting on heavy losses, reinforcement difficulties, and the demands placed on the British Expeditionary Force during the winter of 1914. A compelling association, pairing Haig’s most resonant wartime message with an early-war communication to the same correspondent. Framed as issued.
